On April 19th and 20th this year, I felt really fortunate to be able to perform two of my poems at the 25th Annual Fear No Art. at College of Lake County. My wife Christine was in a very cool dance and I am continually impressed by her. It was very rewarding to be able to do a live show with her as well. We had done several virtual shows together, including Fear No Art in 2021, during the pandemic, but this was the first one in front of a live audience. Even though we weren’t in the same pieces, it was very cool to share the experience with her, hang out backstage, etc.
There were also a ton of talented performers. It was an amazing experience. I am not used to performing on such big and complex stages, and I really put some thought into lighting for “Tarzan of the Grapes”. Typically lighting is an afterthought for me but because I had the poem already memorized from my 2023 Fringe show, I had the time to think about it more. The tech crew at CLC was amazing, and I felt very supported. I was also asked to read a piece at the very end of intermission, leading into the 2nd act. I chose “Borrowed Air.” I wrote those two at the same time and they are polar opposites, evil twins maybe. Anyway, for that reason I like performing them together.
