Super Imposition

Desire reflecting
at close range,
atmospheres of distance
unfold across the street.

Never really sure if
they gaze upon divinity,
or the delusional god of self

Urban birds on
crumbling concrete perches,
the living invisible backdrop
of hurried lunch breaks
and field trips.

They broadcast their break-in
cooing on a frequency
only they are tuned to,
silent to the stone curators
guarding their kingdoms.

Superimposed, unimposing
they sit,
no brushstroke corrupted,
a few extra treasures
asserting their belonging,
their need to be seen
